Stock images, what are they? They are photos, computer generated images and other types of pictures that you can buy for your personal and business use.
There are many companies that sell stock images on the web. BigStockPhoto.com is one of them. They sell millions, yes millions, of cool images. But don’t let that big number scare you. You can search for an image by category, photographer, most popular image, etc. so; hopefully, you won’t have too many images to choose from.
This site offers so many images that you can even search for obscure words. For instance I input into the “search for an image” box on the site the words “picture hunter” to find out if the site would find pictures under that title. And guess what? It did! Up popped pictures of hunters and separate photos of those poor animals that are hunted.
That experiment worked so well I decided to put in some technical words, “product photography”? These are pictures of products that can be used in advertisements like a celebrity picture, and pictures of cars. Up popped just what I wanted.
As a third experiment I input “cartoon pictures” and 338 were available to look at on the site.
Not only is BigStockPhoto.com easy to navigate it also offers free stock images as well. These images you can use on your website, blog, print needs, fun, school, whatever. In fact you can choose from 500 different images. There you can find glamour images, money images, and even Christmas pictures. When you click on the image you will find specific details about it, including the photographer, his or her portfolio, a photo ID and the image size. The free images are 500 pixels max. dimension, though you can download a larger version for sometimes as low as a dollar.
In order to download the free image you must agree to BigStockPhoto.com’s “image usage agreement” and assert that you have read and understand the agreement. This information is pretty standard for such websites.
If you are interested in buying an image from this site you can pay by MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Pay Pal. Isn’t that great! You’ll need to purchase some download credits and then you can download the images right away. Image downloads cost from 1-6 credits depending on size of image. Cost per credit is from 90 cents to $3.00 each depending on how many you purchase.
